Williams Ready for More

E-mail Print PDF

Kayla Williams completed an amazing journey from Level 10 to Elite to World champion in just a few months. "These past few weeks have been the craziest time of my life," she said following the medal ceremony. "The past months have been hectic and crazy but I've also grown a lot." Williams named getting used to the monthly training camps at the Karolyi ranch as her biggest challenge when turning elite. She confirmed that she is also capable of a 2 ½ twisting Yurchenko vault but it was deemed not ready at the training camp. Upon returning home the newly crowned champion is hoping for some change in attitude from her friends. "My friends don't really understand gymnastics but I think they may understand more now,"she laughed. Having started gymnastics because she wanted to become a cheerleader, Williams stuck with the sport "because I got hooked on the beam and bars." Competing in her first ever international competition in London, she is now hoping for more. "When I come home, I want to continue training and getting more assignments and hopefully win more titles."
