Italian Juniors Win in Britain
Rushmoor, GREAT BRITAIN: This friendly international for
these two up and coming European nations took place over the weekend
of the 25th and 26th of March.
The British team comprised of several Espoire level British champions
all thirteen and fourteen years old, and with the exception of
Becky Downie who was away winning medals for England at the
Commonwealth Games showcased the cream of Junior level British talent.
Italy also sent a very strong contingent of their best junior level
gymnasts. As a warm up to junior Europeans in May, there may have
been a few indications of likely medal winners to be seen here from
both countries.

Italy won the team competition with 159.050 to GB’s 157.000.
Encouragingly for the future, gymnasts from both countries are been
reported to be well-prepared competing their gymnastics with excellent
form and flair. The British girls suffered from more falls but were
reportedly higher in difficulty, there were some falls from the Italian
girls as well suggesting that steadiness in performance is something
these young gymnasts are still working to master.
Also encouraging were the reports of expressive elegant floor routines
from both teams, Becky Wing, Laura Jones, Anna Reschiglian,
and Valentina Muollo being singled out for praise in particular.

As this was a friendly event, both teams elected to enter girls that
had fallen in the previous days competition to some event finals to
give then another chance at going through clean, hence the top qualifiers
are not all listed in event finals.
